Posted: May 11, 2018This is one of the best racing games/Simulators to date. I’ve raced cars and boats all of my life.
Now much older I leave the real racing to my son. But the day I discovered online racing, I was hooked.
F1 was good and I tried to few others, then Project CARS came out and it was amazing. I averaged 4200 hours of FA seat time a year driving Project CARS 1. So when Project CARS 2 came out I was right there. The Graphics are the best. After a few updates the Physics of Project CARS 2 out does any other simulator on the market. But it’s not perfect, The Licensing was a welcome addition, however due to a few unsportsmen like drivers how choose to host online races and then kick others not for bad driving, but for being faster, keeping a good license can be frustrating.
Finely, I am giving Project CARS 2 a temporary thumbs up. I say temporary because it is my hope that the makers of Project CARS 2 will fix the games one destroying error in there programming. That is the advantages given to console user over PC users. Consoles are given a 3 MPH advantage over PC along with added software that lets a console driver stay on track no matter how fast they drive. A PC user is Robbed from competing fairly. If these problems are fixed, Project CARS 2 would be a five start winner.Marketcrash16. Posted: October 27, 2018I waited a while before posting this review, and I actually refunded the game when I first bought it.
Up until a few weeks ago I liked a lot about this gamebut I hated the way it drove. I was experiencing really bad lift-off oversteer, the braking was wonky and it felt like you could rotate the car far too easily with a tap of the brakes. After tweaking the game, it is now my favorite sim and has replaced Rfactor 2. What I suspect is that the default settings (even though it detects my Thrustmaster T300) are geared towards contollers. The default sensitivity settings are all at '50' after lowering braking, steering and throttle to near 40, it started to become a totally different game. Combine that with some setup tweks and the cars started feeling really believable, and then I was able to appreciate the other good points of Pcars 2. The game is not perfect but every sim has something you need to overlook. Some racing rules are wonky and there are some glitches but not deal breakers for me.
I mostly league race, but regarding aiit is hit and miss. You CAN have good races against them, and it also sucks sometimes too.I will do my list of pros and cons:Cons:The biggest downside to this game is EASILY what I have mentioned above. The game felt TERRIBLE TERRIBLE until I figured out what was wrong.-Ai is really inconsistent. Career mode can be frustrating– Some cars are flat out garbage. Lambo Super Trofeo is awful no matter what you do.– No one really USES the license system online, so you are bound to bump into morons.– Racing 'same class' will put cars together that should never race each other. Road vs Oval Indy cars)– ffb is excellentbut involves tweaking and there isn’t one perfect setting for all cars.– the in game chat function SUCKS– You have to be super fast to click save if you want your replay.– If you are a track snob, you may have issues with the track accuracy, otherwise, they are awesome.– Penalty warnings are still a bit of an issue/annoying but much improved-Using 'auto' pitstop settings sucks.
You NEED to prep this prior to race.– AI are on different physics that can be frustrating.– Manual transmission is not that great-GTE cars appear to have ABS baked in and you can’t disablePros:-Road conditions are so well done. Curbs, road temps, racing line, rain, puddles, grass, gravel make all the difference and all are believably done. Very dynamic. When it starts to turn to night and the road cools, you definitely feel it in the grip.
This is the best part of the game IMO-VR is exceptional-The immersion is unmatched in any sim I have played. You feel like you are there. The only sim, or even video game in general where I lose all track of time.– Visually one of the top sims and good framerate. Sounds are hit and miss,– Tire model seems very complex. You can’t just run slicks like you can in Rfactor 2 as the road/air conditions are very dynamic.– The 'Engineer' is quite helpful for new people. You definitely notice the effect of the setup changes.-FFB (once tuned) is very infomative.– Full day to night cycles-Progression in the career mode for those who play offline.-Excellent selection of cars-Decent amount of tracksFor my purposes, this has nearly everything I need. Each person differs, so try it and if you don’t like it you can return it.
In my opinion this is just as much of a sim as Assetto and RF2 and surpasses them in some categories.konjiki7. Posted: August 20, 2018The games graphics, sounds, tracks everything is next level. Except the driving/physics.My driving rig is a Fanatec CSW v2 with csp v3 pedals hard mounted to cockpit.I invited a buddy I race with at the track over to try this game out as potential off season training tool First we warmed up the tires then we started test the game for input lag. Then we eased into a couple of more spirited laps. We were mortified as a mustang gt at 30% throttle at 15mph began loosing traction at the last turn at laguna seca wheels pointed straight It began moving all over the track as if weight didn’t exist in the game. We watch the replay and couldn’t make sense of why it happened.Tried the 1 series bmw out (very simular to my daily) and it felt better then the mustang but not by much. During braking situation down hill the car would have often spin out without any steering input or locking of wheel.
Just 50% brake pressure abrupt spin.In some instances the car would experience fantom body roll in which you will exited the turn. Wheel pointed straight applying light throttle yet the car is pulling the same direction wheel was turned several feet back. The abrupt snap oversteer the opposite directions all which at 50mph. Another replay in slow mo and at a loss of words where the energy to move 2800+lbs like that came from coasting with very light throttle, or what happened to the resistance from the tires? In the replay you can see the body of the car just started leaning with no steering input and the tire slam into the wheel well. Like the car landed from a 4ft drop.I gave it a benifit of the doubt maybe we are missing something via ffb.
Downloaded jackspade files which helped massively cars actually communicate with you better. Road feel is amazing with this. However after playing around its pretty safe to say alot of standard car are broken. A chosen few drive really well and have believable feel to it like the series 7 car.Needless to say very disappointed in this title. Especially after the first game fell short in a very similar way.
After wasting a few hours tuning most cars got slightly better but most of the real world counter parts don’t drive this badshifteHHH. Posted: October 17, 2018The AI ruinned it for me. Going through the 'campaign' felt more like a chore than fun.
The physics and the AI are just ridiculous. It’s like you are playing by a set of rules and the AI is playing by another.
It feels really cheap sometimes. If you are driving on the wet, the car behaves ridiculously. It’s impossible to drive in a straight line when everytime your car touches a puddle, it spins out. EVEN IF YOU ARE GOING REALLY REALLY SLOW.
But the AI however, is unafectted by this and will just pass by you non stop. The AI seems like it’s glued to the ground. You will see them take turns where you can’t even take them at half the speed they are taking them. You will sometimes break side by side and not stop in time and crash out of the track, but the AI however is able to stop in time and do the turn. It’s things like this that ruinned it for me. Having the best lap time, not crashing, taking the right apex and yet somehow the AI drivers are glued right behind me.On straights they will also pull away from you. It’s like they are faster than you at everything and are unaffected by wether conditions.Oh they will also crash into you for no reason. I have experienced things like, me being the sole driver on a straight and the AI instead of overtaking me, he just speeds up way behind me, catches me and crashes right into me.If you touch the AI you will spind out.
Posted: March 22I am new to simracing, got myself the Thrustmaster TX and this is the first game I am seriously playing with it and it is alot of fun. I think alot of the negative reviews come from people playing a game like this for the first time and instantly hop into some GT3 car and expect it to be fun.
You have to give yourself time, start the career with formula rookie or even kart and work yourself up. It is a way more rewarding experience and you learn alot along the way. I’ve never been so exhausted (in a good way) from playing a game. Mentally as well as physically.I can’t speak for the MP since I only played SP for now. This game may not be on the same level as iRacing or some other games in this category, but I feel like it is a great gateway into simracing. For example there is an engineer, that helps you with optimizing your car. Amazing idea and helps alot!Have fun, also download ‘CrewChief’!
(just google it) ?gmkump. Posted: November 2, 2018I don’t know why there were so many comments about the performance model of Project CARS 2. I’m very impressed with it. The differences between front wheel and rear wheel drives are so noticeable, and require a different driving technique.Having a good steering wheel, foot pedals, shifter, and especially VR is a must.
At 62, I’m just happy I could experience this. It is incredibly fun. And the issue of being master of none and having a bit of everything is a big plus from my point of view. I love the fact that I can experience such an extreme range of cars and tracks,The career is fun, especially since you can participate in so many diciplines as you advance in the racing tiers. For those who stick with it and obtain the skills that will develope over time, Project CAR 2 is an extreme success.
For those who give up early, well, sorry that your missing out.Big thumbs up here.Mr. Posted: February 16, 2018It’s generally a good game but the AI is still absolutely terrible, it’s like this in all the developer’s games going back to NFS Shift 1 and not a single thing has changed with PCARS 2. The AI can only drive the racing line, if you are in the way they will actively ram you to get back into their place, and when you look at the AI cars they all drive in a perfectly straight line like they are glued to the racing line. Their performance is very inconsistent, I am playing the Ginetta G40 Junior series on 75% difficulty and I’ve been trying for hours to beat the AI qualifying time and it’s extremely difficult, the closest I can get is within a few hundred milliseconds playing with all assists off on my G27.
However when I start the actual race I fly past them like they are all on a Sunday drive. This disparity is even more noticeable in the rain, qualifying against the AI in the rain is flat out impossible, they drive perfectly while I’m just barely keeping control of the car trying to keep up with them, and they qualify a good 5-7 seconds ahead of me. And of course in the actual race I come first by almost 10 seconds because the AI slows down massively for no apparent reason.Thumbs down for this because I find the game unplayable with such bad AI.Stupid Sexy Flanders. Posted: October 13, 2017The graphics, FFB and physics are great. The tracks and cars are great. The weather is great. The online ranking system is totally ♥♥♥♥ed.
You win a race and you get 5 points. Someone crashes into YOU on the first corner and you lose 20 points. You exit the race and you lose 50 points. The devs are absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s. Check the official forums – they are rude, delete comments, refuse to answer questions. The 2.0 patch notes literally said ‘Improvements and enhancements made’ with no further clarification as to what those improvements and enhancements are, so people asked about it on the forums. Bans and deleted threads, threats from mods and devs, and even the god damn CEO gets involved and shuts down threads because he’s a child who can’t handle complaints. The game is buggy as hell.
So much is broken that I’m not even going to list it – just google it. I mean you can’t even race carts or rallyx online because they forgot to include pits! Your car setups don’t save, you get random penalties for no reason, if it rains mid-race your pit crew won’t change your tyres to wets, etc.
It’s straight up broken in so many ways.At this point you’re better off sticking to Assetto Corsa until this♥♥♥♥♥♥is fixed and the devs decide to grow up and stop acting like entitled children.edit: Someone just posted on reddit this list of 48 bugs currently in the game:1.) There is no way to type and communicate in a room unless you’re driving. This was a bug in PC1 where the online lobby didn’t work. And since there’s a 'Timeout' function that automatically puts you back in the pits, you can no longer park on the side of the road for a while to type in the chatbox. (There seems to have been an attempt to fix this, but with all my game time it seems to only work 10% of the time, and only in the practice session, never the Qualifying Session.)2.) Replays still broken.
Cars stuck on the grid, and still in the pits, even though they were finishing high in the race. Bug possibly has to do with players leaving in the middle of the race.3.) Silverstone Classic is still broken. Assume that Hockenheim Classic is also broken. They had the same bugs in PC1 as Silverstone Classic.
Need to test them out thoroughly. Basically what happened was that we practiced and qualified, and then started the race it literally raced all the way to the finish line, 15 feet in front of us. We didn’t even get 1 lap in. The race went from the starting grid, to the starting line.4.) Tracks without Pits: There are many tracks in the game that don’t have pits.
This inherently means that you can’t have a Practice Session in multiplayer. I don’t care if you have to create unrealistic pits, or if there’s only 2 pit boxes, you have to do it!
Otherwise any map without pits either won’t be used, or will only be a short term gimmick.5.) Invisible Walls are still in Project Cars. This bug has been in Project Cars 1 since day 1.6.) Rejoining Lobbies: If you rejoin a multiplayer lobby after you quit / get disconnected, your time is wiped out. It needs to have the times saved to Steam Profile on the server. Similarly, you can’t rejoin a lobby you get disconnected from, even if you start from the pits or take a time penalty and restart from the pits.
This functionality is vital to have if you want PC2 to be used for Endurance races.7.) There are certain tracks that give 'Cut Track' penalties when you are in the middle of the track. Circuit of the America’s turn 1 is one example. Watkin’s Glenn turn 1 is another.
Algarve is another.8.) Cut Track penalty system during passing is broken. If someone spins and / or lets you pass by significantly slowing down, the system thinks the passing car is 'cheating', and forces the passing car to give the spot back.
Also, it forces you to give the numerical position back, but not necessarily forces you to give it back to the person you 'cheated.' Assume that if / when this system activates at the right time, it’ll still make you give back the position #, not the place to the correct driver.9.) 'Cut Track' penalties are inconsistent, wrong, and illogical. They sometimes occur one lap, but not the next on the same line. Sometimes putting two wheels over the white line gives a cut track, other times going 4 wheels over does not, in the same exact spot.10.) 'Cut Track' penalties give you 30 seconds to slow down and serve the penalty. This is so long that you can brake normally for the next corner and 'clear' the penalty.
The system either needs to be cut severely in order to serve it (like down to 5 seconds) or needs better coding so that slowing down for a normal corner doesn’t clear the penalty.11.) In some tracks, the pit crew doesn’t let you leave the pit box. There is a system in the game that prevents you from driving out of your box if there is a car approaching (which is good), but it seems to get tripped up by other cars in their pit boxes just sitting there. Even if the drivers are still in the menu.12.) Tire System: The tire system is basically broken across all cars.
Some cars actually go faster on Wet Tires than slicks in dry weather, and the tires don’t overheat in a reasonable amount of time. Other tires don’t build up any heat at all. Also, like in PC1, it is not justified to use Hard tires at any time over softs because Soft Tires don’t wear off / degrade like they should.13.) Slight damage to the front causes massive (unproportional) amount of radiator damage in the short and the long term.
This is an old PCars 1 bug that was fixed for PCars 1.14.) Visual Only damage is broken. While it resists damage and doesn’t cause any problems while everything is attached, if you lose a part, that part is removed from the aerodynamic model. With Visual Only Damage, if you lose a wing or a foil, it should be that you have no handling issues, but it means you can no longer maneuver because the foil is gone from the aero model, too.15.) The gears sometimes load up incorrectly, and trying to change them causes further bugs.
Another Project Cars 1 bug (but not a PC1 day 1 bug).16.) The functions required to properly steward a race are missing. We need the ability to assess penalties, and remove penalties. We need the ability to restart the count up and restart the race (in order to get people back in who D/C).17.) If you accelerate time in Qualifying (in singleplayer), the AI outperform what they should by several seconds per lap.18.) Double shifting, even TRIPLE SHIFTING is still in game.
This is another Project Cars 1 Day 1 bug. Thankfully with down shift protection it has yet to grenade an engine of mine, but earlier today I shifted from 2nd straight to 5th gear.19.) Hitting the right side mouse button immediately takes you back to the previous menu with no 'Are you sure?' The problem is that there are several places where it’s vital to have the prompt. For example, I was hosting a MP session last night and twice accidentally hit it, which immediately dropped me back to the main menu. Because of this (and the inheriting a lobby bug), I had to restart the lobby several times to get the right options.20.) Cars still crash and bump into each other in Automatic Rolling Start. The problem is that this gives you both damage (when you can’t control it) AND time penalties.CONTINUED IN COMMENTS.
